Simon Laverick, from Darlington, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's in June last year has organised an epic rowing challenge across the English Channel to raise money for medical research. He will be accompanied by up to 16 of his colleagues from the Cummins engine making plant, in Darlington. So many of his workmates wanted to join in that there are two rowing boats due to make the crossing on June 23. The Cummins rowers plan to cross the Channel in the same specially-designed boats used by comedian John Bishop for his recent crossing in aid of Sport Relief.
